GCC Insight: Fall Agronomy Tips

It’s that time of year again where we need to start hammering down if not done so already on our volunteer wheat in our wheat stubble to help control the spread of Wheat Streak Mosaic.  Remember after spraying  the volunteer wheat, It needs to be dead two weeks before you drill or those new plants could be susceptible to the virus.

Corn harvest is just beginning in our area, mainly dryland, but with this late summer heat we have been having it sure seems to be moving this corn along faster than anticipated in places. So I would make sure that we stay on top of getting this crop out in a timely manner to avoid the possibilities of any harvest concerns such as stalk rot, low grain moisture, and ear retention.

On a final note, as you start to prepare for next year’s growing season, keep in mind that here at the Garden City Co-op, we have access to multiple input financing programs to meet the different needs for agronomy inputs.
