By Brent McMillan With winter on the way now is a good opportunity to fill your fuel tanks and make sure your filters have all been changed on your pumping equipment. A little preventative maintenance can save a lot of down time. Drain any water from your tanks to help prevent algae growth. As these algae grow in a tank it will eventually find its way into your equipment causing chaos with injectors and the rest of the fuel system. Algae can spread from one piece of equipment to another via the fuel nozzle. A $10.00 filter is a lot cheaper than a trip to the repair shop. We do carry spin on filters in our office. For anyone who regularly operates diesel powered equipment throughout the winter months, I would highly recommend going with a blended fuel in the fall versus waiting until it’s too late when the colder temperatures hit in January. You may not be using that loader or tractor in November but the fuel system on that equipment really needs to have treated fuel in it prior to the colder weather.
