Zone Mapping
By Kendra Oliphant, Precision Ag Specialist

Lately we have talked a lot about the importance of data in our sections of the monthly newsletter. That’s what we do, because we believe that knowing what is happening on a soil level gives you the most control and confidence with your inputs across your acres.

At GCC we do that by creating Zone Maps, a patchwork of management zones for every field. By layering data such as EC (Electrical Conductivity) that shows us soil type, elevation, and satellite imagery we create a map that help growers to manage the changes and variability of elevation, soil properties and nutrient holding capacities across any given field. With today’s technology every input can be a variable, seeding rates, fertilizer and chemical rates, and even seed hybrids across a single field. All based on specific characteristics of a zone.

Growers have been dealing with variability since the beginning of time but today they can harness the power of Zone Mapping to take back control of the variables.
