Garden City Co-op Supports Hunger Action Month Through Community R.E.A.C.H. Initiative

Garden City, KS — September 9, 2025
As part of its ongoing commitment to community support through its R.E.A.C.H. initiative, Garden City Co-op (GCC) is proud to participate in Hunger Action Month by collaborating with the Kansas Food Bank's "Fill A Bag" program across four of its office locations: Dighton, Garden City, Hooker (OK), and Ulysses.

R.E.A.C.H.—which stands for requests that are Regional, Educational, Children-focused, Agricultural or help provide Hunger Relief—guides GCC’s efforts to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those it serves. Hunger relief is a key focus area, and this September, GCC is inviting employees, patrons, and community members to take action by donating food items to help local families in need.  Right now, one in seven adults in Finney County alone is dealing with food insecurity, and one in six children is food insecure.

🛒 Donation List (~$30 per bag):

  • 2 canned vegetables
  • 2 canned fruits (light syrup)
  • 1 peanut butter
  • 2 bags of pasta
  • 2 cans of pasta sauce
  • 2 cans of meat (chicken, tuna, spam)
  • 2 helper meals (chicken, tuna, etc.)

🚫 Please no glass containers. All items must be new purchases from the store.

Donation bags are available at each GCC location, or individuals may drop off grocery items directly. All donations must be received by Monday, September 29.

“This effort reflects the heart of our R.E.A.C.H. values,” said Annie Gerber, GCC's Talent & Partnership Coordinator.  “With the support of each and every one of you, we can not only meet children's immediate hunger needs, but also help nourish families - allowing our children to grow, thrive, and flourish."
