The Heartbeat of Our GCC Community

There is always something special about fall harvest. The seasons begin to change, and after months of planning, planting, and hard work, the crop is finally ready to come in. Before sunrise, lights move across the fields, trucks begin rolling down country roads, and GCC employees prepare our facilities for another busy day. From the field to the elevator, harvest brings people together to see a year’s work through and care for the communities that depend on agriculture.
Agriculture is more than a job—it is a calling and a way of life. We take tremendous pride in caring for the land, feeding families, and supporting our communities. But this important work also carries serious risks. Long hours, fatigue, heavy equipment, grain dust, and increased traffic remind us that even familiar tasks can quickly become dangerous.
This September, as we observe National Farm Safety and Health Week, we are reminded to acknowledge these dangers and approach them with a healthy respect. We are also reminded of how connected we are. From producers and drivers to employees, families, and community members, each person plays an important part in the success of the season.
As harvest activity increases across our facilities and communities, keep these important safety reminders in mind:
- Stay alert around trucks, equipment, and moving machinery.
- Follow traffic patterns and facility procedures.
- Avoid distractions and communicate clearly.
- Take fatigue seriously by resting, hydrating, and resetting when needed.
- Inspect equipment and address concerns before they become hazards.
- Speak up when something does not look right.
Safety belongs to all of us, and it is built through the choices we make each day. No load, deadline, or breakdown is more important than a person’s life.
A successful harvest is measured by more than bushels, yields, and full bins. It is also measured by how well we worked together, how faithfully we cared for one another, and whether everyone returned home safely when the work was done.
That is how we honor the work we do, care for one another, and keep the heartbeat of our GCC community strong.
